    Throttle sticking 2002 SANTE help

    Hi All,

SO I just put my boat in the water and my throttle is sticking quite bad. This started happening last year as well. It is completely fine when accelerating from neutral point. I then go back into neutral and the idle is way too high. (I often have to go back and push it by hand to go back to normal idle RPM). I am not sure where to start to fix this. I have tried adjustments on the back before the point of the servo wheel cable. Is is a stretched cable, maybe broken cable. What are your thoughts.

    Any input is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks Guys

Do you have an Excalibur? If so, try running with the shroud removed, if that corrects the problem your shroud may need a little trim so it does not touch the throtlle cable.

Hi Quinner, Thanks for the reply. Yes I am running an excalibur. Can you please let me know what the shroud is?

Quinner is refering to the decorative plastic cover on the top of the engine.

On an 02' it would be the silver plastic cover on top of the motor, may be three thumbscrews, remove them, then remove the cover, replace screws to hold spark arrester in place.

In these pics the shroud is red, known PCM issue with shroud interferring with the throttle cable particularly on boats with Perfect Pass, fix is grind away shroud at obstruction. Before you do that, just remove the shroud and run it, if problem goes away you know your solution.

          Motor with shroud removed:

notice how close throttle cable is to shroud, this was before it was trimmed:

wow, you guys are great for the detailed responses. the bad news is that I have already run the boat with the shroud completely removed. THis is clearly an issue of a spring sticking or cable stretched or something.

Let me know what you guys think I should look at next.

You should be able to remove the spark arrestor and move the throttle valve by hand and it return to normal. Use some throttle body cleaner on the butterfly valve shaft and maybe soak a clean rag and wipe the throat and edges of butterfly and make sure there is no gum to cause sticking. the throttle should return to "zero" freely. You might have to disconnect your throttle cable and PP to test this. If it returns freely with them disconnected, you have found your problem.

thanks for the reply. I never knew throttle body cleaner existed. There is like this spring i see which is most likely the butterfly spring you are speaking of. I went and used wd 40 but maybe this was a bad move on my part. As I dont know what the parts are that are referring to does anyone have a pic so they can show me what the spark arrestor is, and what piece is exactly the throttle valve and the butterfly valve.

Thanks guys. I really appreciate the help.

                  HI Guys,

I just want to clarify, i did not spray wd 40 inside the spark arrestor. It was only on the spring located on the side of the spark arrestor on the same side as the throttle cable
