    V-drive fluid blue?

Changed my vdrive fluid for the first time and it has a blue tint to it. Is this some type of synthetic fluid? Should I use a synthetic fluid? I believe it just calls for a 30 weight.

The only lube I've seen blue is the transfer case fluid for my 99 Tahoe. It is a delicious looking fluid. Like the label should be Barq's, Fanta, or Nehi.

This isn't straight blue but it has a blue tint. Could it be an additive.

What year boat, and Walters, or PCM V-drive?

Reality is the V-drive has only about 5 bearings, and two gears in it. The oil used is really not that critical. That being said, use what the service manual recommends.

I could be wrong on this, but I think Walters also suggested a gear lube for the V-drive, instead of 30 W motor oil.

I think you may be correct and a some of the gear lubes are colored (maybe only the syn lubes). Gear lubes have the EP (extreme pressure) resistance made for getting smashed between gears. Motor oils are not designed for that. Motor oils are designed for hydrodynamic bearings and lubricating piston rings (which behave similarly)

One thing is that detergent (HD) motor oils may foam in those gearboxes. That oil might need to be Non-Detergent (ND). This topic needs a bit of research.
