Checklist for what to do after an extra long layup period?

    Hi All

It has been a long time since my 94 SN has been on the water. She was winterized Nov 2010 and sat outside my house in NC under a carport covered since. Ended up with too many generous friends with nice boats and lakehouses to visit so there was never a need to take her out. I have the 5.8 pro boss but the protec ignition has been replaced with a carburetor setup.

So I have gotten back up to speed on the maint items via the forum and the manual. I just wanted to run through what I have done and see if the very knowledgeable people here have anything to add:

    1) Changed impeller
    2) Charged battery (Have a dual battery setup with isolater and one needs to be replaced. One survived - Optima yellow tops).
    3) Blower was working
    4) Checked fluids and all was good. Fuel was stabilized, so I started her. Took a bit but she got going a just a little starting fluid on the fake a lake and ran quite well. Minimal smoke. Was expecting much worse. Engine was fogged and drained during the last winterization.
    5) Ran her up to temp and drained the oil overnight
    6) Replaced oil filter with a motorcraft FL-1A and filled with 4qts of VR 1 20-50 racing oil to ensure the ZDDP additive. Added 1/2 qt to the filter.
    7) Started up and noticed oil dripping from filter connection. Learned lesson about old filter gasket staying on. Removed old gasket, refiled lost oil and brought back to temp again.
    8) Filled hull with water and tested bilge and auto float. Both good.

Going to top of the tank with fuel and then once on the water I plan to check the shaft packing right after putting her in. Anything else to do/check before a test run? I have a transmission fluid leak, so that pretty much ensures it is fresh dex/merc ATF always in there.

    Thanks

The old gas would be my biggest concern from your list, stabilized or not. You may want to keep adding fresh fuel as you burn through it. I have had issues with 6 month old gas that was treated so 3yr old fuel would be a big concern.

Keep an eye on all your gauges and before running maybe tighten all hose clamps on the suction side of the RWP and check and clean the strainer and gasket.

      Thanks Quinner

I was pretty nervous about the fuel and considered draining from the tank. But decided to start her and she ran smooth. There is about 3/4 tank left, and I plan to put 93 octane in.

Also forgot to mention I checked the trailer hubs, tires and brakes of course....

Would it be good advice to syphon the gas out if left for 6 months or more? It shouldn't be too hard right?
