When should guages on dash become active?

I just replaced my gauges on the dash. I replaced everything except the perfect pass. I noticed the guages do not have power until the motor is turning over. Once the motor is cranking they have power. Can someone verify that this right? The boat is new to me and i dont remember how it worked before. I would think the gauges would power up when the system becomes active after the first or second time the start button is pressed. The boat is a 2000 SAN.

From what I've read so far the gauges and pp should be on when the boat is in start position with the engine off. The keypad lights up and all the accessories seem to work but there is no power to the gauges and the boat will crank but not start. I've checked the lanyard, main fuses by the battery, breaker box. Nothing appears to be off.

Mine is an 06 so I'm not sure if they are setup the same..... But, after you type in the ignition code on the keypad and press start the first time, all of the accessories come on other than the gauges. If you then press the start button quickly, but not long enough to crank the motor, the gauges will power up.

Did the boat crank over before you swapped all of the gauges? You may have another issue that is totally independent from the gauges....

The boat now fires right up but quickly dies, gauges still dont work except during cranking. Its like ignition is active briefly while cranking but once the boat starts it loses spark again.

Took the breaker box apart and swapped the ignition breaker with the shower, that fixed it. Must have been loose or a bad breaker.

We have a 2001 SAN and our gauges don't power on until the engines running. I wondered about this too as I thought they would go on at the first round of key pad input.

what have you got now you've swapped the breakers?

the reason I ask is that we have a heater plumbed into the ignition and we had to disable it as it blew the fuse in the keypad and we got stuck in the middle of the loch and it wouldn't fire up until we got home and worked out that the fuse had tripped!! (First week of ownership!!) lol

would be interested to know what you've got now.

This is what happens now (I have no code set for the Keypad): first time I select the start button the stereo and the depth finder turn on (these are connected to red wire). Second time I hit the start button I get power to all gauges on the dash and the ballast level gauges (these are connected to purple wire lead) Then if I hold start the starter kicks in.
