    Knock sensor

    Last year I read a post that knock sensors needed to be installed at a very specific lb. of torque. I can't find it now.

    Bought my boat last year and during the test drive the knock sensor was not on. When I got it home, low octane fuel was put in it and the knock sensor came on.

    I assumed it was just the fuel. Several people said once the fuel was completely out, the sensor would simply go off. Never happened. So this year I took it to my local dealer and had the sensor reset. First time out... Sensor came back on. Definitely not the fuel.

    Please help.

    Could it be the torque thing I mentioned above? Any other ideas?

    Just to add a little more info, it has never limped or sounded. Just taken the function of one of my gauges.

      Did you apply any thread sealant or Teflon tape to the threads?

          No - don't. It can block the electrical circuit. The sensor needs to be grounded.

          I'd have to look it up in my Tahoe book. Tonight. If you don't get it today, send me a PM around 7 tonight.

              I had to replace my knock sensor. I guess they can just go bad. Had the tech bring out his laptop and reset it and it was all good.

                Did you have similar issues to mine?? And a new sensor fixed it?

                  From my PCM manual

                  5.7L = 15-22 N•m (11-16 lb ft).

                  6.0L = 20 N•m (15 lb ft).

                    Is there any throttle sequence that will reset the engine codes or is the only way to take it to the dealer. I got the knock sensor see dealer message for the first time in 5 years. I've gone ahead and replaced the knock sensor, torqued to spec, and checked my wiring.

                    I'd really like to be able to reset the code without dragging the boat to the dealer, so that I can determine if I've fixed the problem or have bigger issues.
