Ok I need solid advice on a boat that has been sitting

I may have the opportunity to purchase a 2000 SS with tower, fat sacs etc for around 13k. Problem is the boat has been sitting in the sun for over a year and not started. Interior is shot and its oxidized bad. Is it worth? I have 4-5k to put into for repairs as I cannot find a SAN or SS 99+ for less than 21k and I do not have that.

All opinions are welcome, be brutally honest here :-)

Was the boat winterized/layed up correctly or has it just been sitting? Either way it still seems like it could be a good deal at that price. Figure 2.5-5K for a new interior if it needs everything. Nautiqueskins with install will be on the higher end but if you have a good local upholster you can probably get a factory look for less but make sure they use marine thread that will hold up to the sun.

All it takes is some elbow grease and time with a buffer to get rid of oxidation so I wouldn't worry too much about that. For example here is a before Click image for larger version

ID:	366128 I used 3M compounds, polish then Collinite wax. Let me know if you want more info on the steps I took to bring back the shine.

I would be sure to really check out that engine before you commit, especially if it was not winterized before it sat. I am not sure if it gets cold enough to crack a block where you are or not but I would ideally want to run it and see what shakes out. At the very least do a compression and leak down test to see what's going on inside there. If the fuel has been sitting for a year you might have quite a few issues with your fuel lines, pumps, injector, etc. I still think you can get it up and running and looking nice for well under $20 IF everything in the motor checks out. Good luck!

I agree. Make sure and check the drive line. Fuel battery and lake check. If its got a cracked block and Trans is bad it would cost you as much as buying one lake ready.

If engine and tranny check out, sounds like a reasonable deal.

Thanks, I had one deal on a project Super Air fall through and now this one is looking like it might also. The boats are advertised for sale and then they don't sale them.
