Last weekend the bilge pump light wouldn't go on, and the bilge pumps were not running. The fuse at the battery was blown; so I replaced it. Then the pumps would work fine with the switch on "Bilge Pump Only", but still wouldn't work from the keypad. I had checked the circuit breaker and it seemed fine. When I stuck my head down under the dash I realized the circuit breaker "button" was extended and would not reset. It felt like it was floating and not making contact with anything behind the mounting plate. My thought is that the breaker has failed, probably physically fallen apart behind the mounting surface. Possibly as it failed, it shorted and that is why the fuse in the battery box blew.
Before I dig into the "black box" of circuit breakers, can anybody confirm that I can open the box up to replace a breaker? Also, has anyone been through the process and have some guidance to offer?
Thanks!
