yes the rubber handles the heat, most new impellers are made of a new rudder silicone plastic compound. But it can only handle some much.

So I replaced the impeller and found that the existing one was in good shape. I replaced it anyway. I flipped on the pump and it still is not pumping water. I checked the connections and they look good. I opened and closed the ball valve and it worked well. Do I need to prime it? If so, how do I do that? I really want to get the water out of my starboard tank at a minimum before it begins growing something. So if priming it doesn't work, how do I manually get the water out of the tank?

Also, why are the pumps upside down and the plate opens to the bottom of the boat making it difficult to place the o ring and impossible to see if the impeller is spinning properly? Poor design Nautique.
