    Holley Carb leaking fuel

    Hello
I went to the boat today and saw that my Holley carb is leaking fuel. Is this a known problem of this carburettor and where do I get replacement parts? Do I have to worry?
    Thanks for answering me....

    Ced,

Yes, you do have to worry, and with good cause I might add. Some problems or conditions do not warrant worry but this one in fact does. That is unless you don't mind blowing up yourself and some of the people you care about most. In any event I would suggest that raw gas dripping into an enclosed engine compartment should be cause for action if not alarm.

The fix may be easy at least. Sometimes the fittings at that point of your picture come slightly loose and the pressure is enough to leak a bit of gas onto the manifold. First snug up the fittings, not Crank, but good and snug. Then dry off the whole area, start the engine and determine if there is any additional leaks. Touch the suspect areas of the carb with dry newspaper and you will easily tell if there is any moisture or gas leaking out.

P.S. Do this in an open area, for obvious reasons.

Like texas said, I'd try to snug up that fitting. If that doesn't do it, could have a cracked bowl, which is that front part that says Holley on it. There is also a short line that goes from the front bowl to the rear bowl which could be leaking and dripping down where you describe. Could be the bowl gasket also. I suppose we'd have to know exactly where it is coming from, in even more detail, to see what you need to do to fix it. Most of the parts are on skidim.com.

It appears from you photo that it may be at the gas line going into the carb. Teflon pipe sealant tape should take care of it. I did that with the '91 that I had and it lasted for years and didn't deteriorate. You definitely don't want to let it go without repairing it.

Your leak appears to be between the fuel line and the carb bowl adapter plug (common problem). Attach one wrench on the carb bowl adapter (larger nut) and another wrench on the fuel line nut and tighten the fuel line nut; caution do not tighten the fuel line without applying equal and opposite pressure on the adapter plug you will crack the bowl if you do. Remember the fuel line is flared

If your fuel line is leaking, it is either loose or cracked or has something between it and the fitting. The fuel line seals against the flare inside the fitting, so teflon tape i probably not going to fix it which is for pipe thread fittings. There is a seal between the adapter fiting and the carb bowl that can leak sometimes or it may be what is loose. To tighten the adapter fitting, hold it with a wrench and loosen the fuel line. Then tighten the fitting, then tighten the fuel line. You may also want to check your accelerater pump which is to the left of the fuel line on the bottom of the bowl. The diaphram inside it will leak sometimes. This is also simple to fix.

You may have to replace the gasket in the behind the big nut it is less than a dollar for parts. The trick is to loosen the brass nut with a line wrench and tighten the big nut, then while holding the big nut tighten the brass nut. Then do as texas 88 suggests to check for a leak.

I was able to stop mine by just tightening it.
