5.8L HO EEM module

I have a 1993 5.8lHO 351 4bbl that is not getting any spark. I am looking for any thoughts or suggestions. Nothing is coming through the coil and I am wondering if it might be the EEM module. Hopefully someone has had some expeience with one of these because I can't seem to find much information about it. Ther seems to be good voltage to the unit and the ground is good. I am not sure how to tet the module or if there is a way to do that. The modue is supplied information through various sensors, the primary one being the timing sensor. Again, I am not usre how to test this sensor either. It is getting voltage and seems to be in proper working order. Any help would be gratly appreciated.

Your EEM needs to be replaced. I had a similar problem and replaced the module and it solved the problem.

The ignition module is under the coil packs in the back of the engine. How much voltage is the module seeing when you crank the engine? If it is below 9 volts then charge your battery and retry the test. The main sensor is the sensor mounted to the interupter in the front of the engine where the distributor is normally mounted. Check the connection to see if it is making contact. If you do have bad ignition module then you will have to repace it with a distributor and wiring for the engine because thew module is no longer available for the Protec engine.

OK It definitely looks like it is the EEM module. Spent another entire day tracing wires and testing with all signs pointing to the EEM. This module is obsolete. Any suiggestions on what I should replace it with. Is there a fairly simple swith-out to distributor. Or is one system better than another? I am assuming I will need to go with something that has an ESA because that function was provided by the EEM.

Go to nearst Correct Craft Dealer and purchase the correct EEM for your boat. Do not try and replace it with anything else.

The problem with this module is that it is obsolete and you cannot purchase it. Also something of interest is that this module is used with a distributor. The coil sits on top of the EEM moule in a combined housing and there is the typical high-tension lead that goes to the distributor. It is an interesting set-up.

PCM doesn't support the EEM anymore - need Protec Retro Kit

I ran into this a couple of years ago on my '91 Excel Vdrive
Had to purchase $349.79 / dealer cost Assy#RK107025A
Protec Retro Kit
-basically dumps your whole EEM / Protec Ignition and converts
it to a Mallory Breakerless Distributor / Ign System

I believe PCM still has some new old stock modules on hand. However, PCM will only sell the modules to owners of EFI engines as the EFI and Protec rely heavily on each other to operate. Given that EFI owners would be unhappy to have to dump the EFI for a Pro-tec problem, PCM is hoarding the remaining stock of modules for such scenarios. I base this belief on a phone conversation I had with PCM in which I was told that the modules to keep my EFI/Pro-tec engine running are available.

So, if you have a carbureted Pro-Tec engine, PCM will not sell you (or your dealer) a new control module. Instead they require you to convert to conventional ignition system. What you loose in the process is detonation protection (i.e. electronic timing control), "limp mode", and "cruise mode".

5.8L HO EEM Module

For those of us with the 93 Protec ProBoss HO carb motors, THAT SUCKS!! It appears that it is only a matter of time before I am going to face this issue and to have a solution that is going to make my engine "less than it was" when I got it really bites. A newer boat may be calling my name sooner than I thought.

Go with the advice on converting to a more traditional distributor (RK107024A, supplied by PCM). The Pro-Tec is problematic and often hard to diagnose, as well as being more or less discontinued. Your boat will love the change!
