Bad battery connection

I'm trying to find a solution to a problem on my 97 Sport.
I had been having problems starting the boat and noticed the connection to the battery would spark and start to smoke. I put on a new metal ring that connects to the battery and its worked like a gem for a few trips out but the last time out I noticed the engine was taking a little longer to turn over and I could hear the battery sparking again even with the bow cushions in and the battery compartment closed. Any suggestions??

Check to see if the ground cable connection (away from the battery) is loose?

If the battery was smoking (vs the connection to the battery) your battery is definitely bad. I would have the battery checked out anyway. I've had a new battery that would barely get the engine started. That battery would not take a charge and began smoking. Replaced with another battery and solved the problem.

So this caused me some pain today. Started fine but first time I turned the boat off it wouldn't start again. I took both connectors off and cleaned them. Started perfect but when I went to put the battery back in the compartment the engine died. I went and jiggled the wires and it started again.

The engine cut off a few more times while pulling tubers. Seemed to happen right after I hit a wake, so the wires probably moved a bit. Should I be looking to replace the battery wires??

I looked for new battery cables on nautiqueparts.com and couldn't find anything.. Hmm
