    '84 2001 Fast Idle

My '84 2001 Nautique hasn't been in the water for 3 seasons. Decided it was time to try again. After fixin several fuel related problems got is started but it idles fast and after even after disconnecting the throttle linkage. Tach reads 1200 RPM with ignition off and 2000 with engine running.

1200RPM with the ignition off sounds like your tach is messed up. Before you go too much farther, you should get a good tach reading. If it was really idling at 2000RPM at idle there would be a horrendous clunk when shifting into gear. If it really is idling that high you should take a look at the idle cam plate and idle screw to see if they are touching at idle. If they are not touching, you need to find out what is holding it from seating in the idle position. If the screw is touching the cam plate, adjust the idle screw until it is around 700RPM at idle (not in gear).

More specifics on how it is idling and running would be helpful.

I would guess the secondary blades are hanging open, that's what caused it on my last 2 carbed boats. Easy solution is to disconnect the secondaries...

        Thats a good point.

I had my carb completely disassembled while rebuilding it. That included the secondary throttle blades. When I reassembled the blades were not completely centered in the bores, causeing them to hange open a little. This is not on only reason a secondary will hang open, but it will definitely cause the engine to idle high.
