Excaliber 343 belt? I'm missing something?????

We put roughly 50 hours on our new of new to us 220 with 343. She threw a belt today and the prior owner had to have one put in it. Nothing lose all pulleys are clean and spin straight. Why would it keep doing this? As far as I can tell there is no way to adjust alignment on anything. Any thoughts????
    thanks

    How old was the belt?

Are you running excess electrical loads?

When you had the pulleys free did they all spin easily?

Does your battery get low between charges?

All I can think of now.

I have a 08 210 343 with 600 + hours still has the original belt. Belt alignment or weak tensioner is all I can think of.

        Maybe it was originally defective.

I assume (not good) the belt is correct.

We do have access load on alternator but the prior owner didn't and he had to take it in to dealer to swap a belt prior to us owning it. The only way I found out is the he found out I was buyin the boat here on the forum. Love this place!!

That setup has been on every chevy v8 since the late 80's. Pretty bulletproof design. If all pulleys spin freely, and the crank pulley is not loose (bolts backed out), the only thing left is the tensioner (which can fail) or the belt (possibly the wrong part i.e wrong length) being installed. Not really anything left. Good luck need to be on the water!!

Tension has plenty pressure and pulley spins free.

Do you have the belt routed correctly?...don't laugh....but one op here bought a used boat and the belt was on wrong.

Ok all back together. The belt is routed like the sticker shows on the intake.Checked water pump while belt was off. Glad I did she was about to go. Missing a piece out of two of the vanes. Bought a better belt than the PCM one. It's a Gates that is a 1/4 inch longer and I'm glad it is. That is a wrestling match getting that thing on. I've done many Chevy trucks with the same engine and its never that tight to get the belt back on. Hooked up the hose and everything is in line no wobble or bent pulleys.

Glad you got it fixed before it came apart.

It shouldn't be. Take advantage of the last pulley to be the red one with no lip. It should slip right on.

I'm not sure I like the idea of the longer belt.

AT is correct, it shouldn't be a big deal to put on. I changed mine the begining of the season with 200 hours on it, figuring it was the original belt, and 7 years is plenty of time. It was an easy change, and 40 hours later it looks new. I wonder if yours wasn't wrong to begin with.

I'm thinking a pulley or something has been swapped. I'm a tech by trade and have done plenty vortec belts. The tensioner is bottomed out and I could barely get the belt on. With the belt on the tensioner only will move about 1/4 inch or so before its bottomed back out. Look at the damaged belt it looks like it wore it in the v real bad before it went.
