    Never seen this before!

Okay, I've owned inboards since 1995 and have never come across this...

I went to change oil last week, so I hooked up the fake-a-lake and started the engine. While I was letting the engine warm up I jumped out of the boat and checked to make sure water was exiting the exhaust, which it was. Not only was water exiting the exhaust but water was also coming out of the hull around the drive shaft. My first thought was that the water from the fake a lake was following the hull and making it appear to be leaking out the shaft location, so I crawled underneath the boat. Nope, it's dry all around the hull in that location but water was indeed spraying out around the shaft.

Puzzled. Is this some new technology that I'm totally unaware of?

    The boat is a 2012 210 with a 450.

If you have a dripless packing nut, there is a water line going to it. Most current inboards use a dripless packing nut, because it is kind of difficult to get to the packing nut to adjust it.

Yeah...tell us what boat you have. We presumed 95 at first LOL.

But DC is correct. What I say is they shouldn't call it dripless packing. They should call it "drip out" packing and the old one "drip in" packing.

Yup, I think Daniel nailed it and it is your dripless shaft packing. I am pretty sure this is a standard feature on Nautique V-drives and I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Thanks for the answers! That's what I was hoping it was... none of my previous boats had that feature. I figured it couldn't be too much to worry about since it was flowing out of the boat instead of into the boat.

Now if I can figure out the rough idle issue...

F725, I also have a 450 in a new G23 that has a rough idle, the engine will actually die sometimes when coming back down to idle, sound familiar?

Very familiar. I haven't had mine die yet but very close. It will drop down into the 400's for rpm's for a second then fire back into the 600's. If I really watch the rpm's when I throttle back I can keep it from dipping too low. I'd really like to get this figured out but I don't want to haul it 2 hours to the dealer for something that they have no ideas on what would cause it besides bad gas.

I can't seem to find it but there was another thread talking about this idle issue on the 450s. From what I remember from that discussion PCM is working on an a fix but I don't think they have one yet.

A 450 in a 210 must be a fun ride huh? Almost seems like a modern day Python 210, minus the noise.

So I have a question for you along the lines of the water coming out of the dripless packing.... is there an easy way to stop this, or catch the antifreeze that comes out during winterization??
