Keypad Problem - 2000 Air Nautique

I went to prep our 2000 Air Nautique (GT-40 PCM Motor) yesterday and after putting in the battery (stored on trickle charge), the keypad wouldn't unlock the system.

The little green lights flashed when pushing all of the numbers except #4.

I put the key pad in an electric oven @120F for four hours and stored it overnight in a bucket of rice.

Still no go. Besides buying a new one, which I will do, is there a way to bypass this thing?

Not wild about not being able to start the boat on the lake.....

I had a similar issue when I took my boat out this year for the first time. I run without a code but despite all other buttons (blower, horn etc) on the pad working I could not get stop or start to do anything. I disconnected the pad and dried it out for a day or so but still nothing. What I found was that after I pressed the start button about 20 times it started to come back to life. I did the same with the stop buttons and after multiple presses it to came back to normal. A few months later and it is still going strong. I think moisture finds its way in and can corrode the contacts below the rubber. Perhaps all my pushing was enough to wear it off? Sounds random but it worked. I plan to take the keypad out over winter next year.

It may not work for you but you never know!

    Good luck.

    D.

PS. As for as I know, bypassing the keypad is not a straight forward process. The pad sends signals to another 'brain' that then activates all the other devices. I imagine a lot of rewiring would be in order.

Thanks-I actually got mine to work by pushing the #4 button a couple hundred times. It must have worked the corrosion loose. I'm pretty uncomfortable with a ski boat that won't work if the dash gets wet.

After looking at the schematics, it appears that connecting a hot lead to the purple wire out of the PME (control box) will power up the engine computer, and the yellow/red wire will crank the engine.

I called the factory and they verified this is correct and will not fry the PME.

I really think that ugly warning sticker should say something like "Warning-getting the dash wet will cause the boat not to run and you may starve to death after your food and beer runs out".

I am so glad I have an old school key switch on my 1997 Ski Nautique. Worst case scenario, I go to an auto parts store and get a "universal" key switch.

I wonder how long before problems with the linc system start cropping up.

Replied to you in my keypad bypass thread. Not a difficult task but only really for emergency use. None of the auxillary switches will work by simply powering the purple wire.
I also had issues and it was my auxillary pad locking out the number pad. Try disconnecting the auxillary and just check the number pad. Longshot I know but worth a try. Good luck

I've never liked the keypad, nor the auxiliary switch pad. I'm about to get my back up and rip it all out. Can't be that hard. A master switch for everything; a on/off/start old school ignition switch and a number of rocker switches for all the other stuff. Probably need a few relays; but there is a nice spot under the dash where the PME lives.........hmmmm. Maybe a winter project.
