    difficulty of adding power outlets???

In my 89 sport I would like to put in at least 1 maybe two 12v power outlets (like a cigarette lighter type). I've found the wiring in these older boats to be kind of screwy. Rather than run the wires form the outlets through the switch panel, I'd like to run directly to the battery (perko, actually)

Would there be a problem doing this, provided I put some sort of fuse or relay in between the outlet and the perko?

Seems like it would be pretty simple, but I could be wrong. Walk me through it please.

That is what I would do. As long as you have a fuse you will be ok.

Standard 12 volt plugs in todays Nautiques are fused with a 10 amp fuse, if you come off the battery and have a fuse within 7" of the battery you can run the wire to where you want to install it

        thanks guys.

What I may do is just run a short wire form the battery to a new fuse bblock/bus terminal, and give myself several new points to connect some stuff (interior and tower lights, 12v etc.)

Anyone see a problem with this?

I did that in my last boat. Worked just fine.

I ran a new 10 guage from the 50 amp breaker (near engine) to the ignition breaker in instrument panel. This solved all types of electrical issues for me. I have 2 12 v cig plugs under the steering wheel.

Frost, ...why do you need to be within 7 in. of the battery?

Less wire to posssibly wear thru and cause a short.
