I have a Fram FCS1136M fuel filter/water separator on my 1992 SN. Does anyone have a good trick to unscrewing the canister so I can replace the filter element? Ive tried using an oil filter wrench while the filter was in the boat and just tried using an oil filter wrench with the filter out of the boat and in a vice. The black canister will not unscrew or maybe I need to get into the gym and workout! Any ideas??

If it is still out of the boat in the vice then I would see if you can gain some leverage by attaching a pole to your filter wench. Also a good strap wrench might work better than a filter wrench.Good luck, those things can be pretty pesky just like the FCCs in the EFI boats before they changed to the clamp style.Shawn

Shawn is on it again. Take it out insert in vice. There is a big nut on the bottom that you can use an air impact if you have access to one. It requires a size that usually only comes in a 1 inch drive socket. You can buy adapters to take the gun from 3/4 inch to 1 inch. If they are really hard sometimes you will need to use a chain style wrench. Mine was pretty stuck but surprisingly not really dirty at all on the inside.
I think I ended up using a huge wrench with another huge wrench on the end to extend it for leverage.Zach@n3boatworks.com
