    Rudder box w/zirk

Anyone out there who has replaced the "non-zirk" rudder box with one that has a zirk fitting? I have a 1999 SNOB w/o the zirk, and would like to replace it with a rudder box that I can lube. Also, anyone have an idea on who to get one from? I have searched NautiqueParts and couldn't find that they carried them.

    Thanks for any info!

Well, if you're taking your old one out anyway, why not just drill & tap it and install your own Zirk fitting? Might as well go fancy and make it a "remote" fitting where you can grease the rudder without having to take anything out.

Yes, I did this on a 91 Sport a couple years ago. We swapped out the original rudder port for the newer one that has the zerk fitting and it is a direct replacement. We got it from Nautiqueparts.com I think. Is there something wrong with your current rudder port or do you just want to be able to grease it easily? If your steering is stiff it is more than likely the steering cable. Our port had some slop to it so that is why we changed it but I will tell you it is NOT a fun job at all. Backseat, floor and gas tank all have to come out and then you disconnect the tiller arm and have somebody catch the rudder but the real pain is getting the port off the bottom of the boat because it was mounted with "permanent" 5200 adhesive. It's a job I would be very happy if I never had to do it again.
