2001 SAN - Steam from exhaust

My SAN has always done this. Big boot of steam when accelerating and some when cruising. When approaching WOT steam seems to increase. There is a little steam at idle. Impeller changed at the beginning of season and temp gauge never budges, even after 2/3 hrs of steady pulling. Engine rebuilt last season. I've read on posts that Nautiques can steam more than other boats due to the muffler set up. Here's a vid:

    Any thoughts?

How close is the dew point to the actual temperature when you took the video? Burning gasoline creates carbon dioxide, and water vapor when burnt. Also water goes onto the exhaust, to keep it cool, and is heated by the exhaust.

The closer the dew point is close to the actual temp, the longer it takes for steam to dissipate.

        It looks pretty normal.

I'm guessing your concern is a blown head gasket, right? Usually a blown head gasket will have a symptom of poor idling.

Coming from a stern drive where you can't see any exhaust, the steam is something I'm not used to. The head gasket shouldn't be blown, less than 50hrs on my rebuild! Engine runs good but the idle is little lumpy. No water in oil or anything and she pulls strong. Have cleaned the IAC to see if it helps but haven't ran since. Will be three weeks before I'm back on the water due to other commitments .

The exhaust hasn't really been bothering me but since I had the vid I thought I'd let others have a look although it seemed more steamy than usual that day. Dew point was 15C, temp 26C.

79 degrees in Ireland? Must have been a heat wave!

Only a 20 degree (F) difference between temp, and dew point is pretty high humidity. The steam is normal.

Spot on Daniel - we are in the middle of heat wave. A buddy was in on Saturday with no suit on. Unheard of normally in the northwest of Ireland! I'll not get too complacent, it won't last long - that I can count on.

Cheers as well Jay, let me know how you get on with the rebuild quotes.
