Prop help for a 2000 Super Air??

Sorry, this probably gets asked a thousand times a summer... but I need a prop for my 2000 Super Air (Walter V-Drive). The boat has the PCM Apex 5.7 engine. Hit a rock today, family coming into town next week ...no spare. From what I've read, The stock prop is the Acme 644? Can someone confirm that?

We're all about wakeboarding and surfing... Reading on Nautiqueparts.com, it looks like the 1234 is the 'big' low-end upgrade, that is technically too big for the boat and could maybe cause issues with the gel coat...I'm not thinking I want to risk that.

The 1578 is the other option... is that what I want? I'm at 4500 feet of altitude, and like I said it's all wakeboarding. Don't even own a ski. The boat isn't a slug with the stock prop that's on it, but more low end would be nice, especially when we load it up.

I'm thinking that's the one, but I wanted to confirm...will I see an improvement in pulling? And what will it do to RPMs, etc? Also, it's the 1578 right hand rotation and not the 1579 left hand rotation, right? Mine obviously spins clockwise.

The acme props for our boats will end in an even number.

The 1578 is the replacement for the 1464 which has been the standard heavy ballast prop for that boat for the whole production run.

There is a new prop 1846, which I want to try. Our boats will fit a 14" prop and I think the larger prop may be better for wakeboarding than the 13.5" prop.

Our boat has the GT40 and came with an OJ 14" x 18p prop. You probably want to pull off the damaged prop and see what it is. I don't know what they put on the 2000 SAN with the Apex motor. Maybe someone else could chime in.

Personally I really hate having two different props. I don't hit things very often, but when I do have to go to my spare and it's annoying when the boat suddenly drives different. I have to get used to it all over again. I did this briefly before selling one and replacing it with one identical to the one on the boat.

Unless you really hate the prop you have, get an identical prop and send this one off for repair.

The one that's on there is in fact the OJ 14"x18. I guess I'm seeing this as a chance to upgrade... I'm assuming the 1578 will give me a little more pulling power... bad assumption compared to the OJ ?

The 1578 will give you tons more pulling power than the stock OJ. I have the 1236 on my 01 SAN at 4500' which is just a little different cup than the 1578. I cannot run as much ballast as I can at lower elevations but it is night and day difference over the OJ. Get the 1578 or 1236. I am thinking about picking up the 1578 so we can finally see which one pulls better. What lake are you on? Im on Almanor.

Small world. Dinged the prop on Almanor yesterday. I'm in Susanville and split time between Almanor and Antelope (even higher elevation). Sometimes Eagle. You know the Island with the flag on it that gets exposed as the level goes down...sort of between the tip of the peninsula and Prattville? I always go between the island and the peninsula, not between the island and the other shore. The island is well marked (and very exposed now), and we were idling between the island and the other shore. I knew it was shallow but I've never seen it that low. Wife was at the helm and I was running around getting ready for a wakeboard run, and BANG. Won't go through there again. Big strip of super shallow rocks between the island and shore, like a trip wire. We were back in 20 feet of water right away after it happened. The lake has come down sooooo much in the past couple weeks. Luckily the rudder and everything else avoided contact, and we were just idling along.

I'm leaning to the 1578... hoping it will make a difference. When we have really loaded up to surf, it's a struggle for the OJ.

Our boat is blue and white, black tower. We'll look for you. House on the lake or where do you launch from? We're canyon dam people. Nice new ramp over there as of last week!

You'll be happy with the 1578, it's less expensive than the 1846 anyway.

We have a house on the Peninsula but not waterfront. I live in Santa Barbara but family is in Yuba City and Chico. I get up there for 2 weeks during the summer. Im headed up next Friday and will be there from August 3-11. We usually launch from Rec. 2 which is the Lassen side. Always ride Goose Bay or down by North Shore campground. There was already a pretty good island down there over the 4th of July. Definitely know the flag island. Lets meet up and ride if you will be around that week! My boat is red and white with a red tower.

I can't stand wacking on it too hard with the hammer.

I use a C-style puller, loosen the castle nut to give it room to move but not fly off, tighten the puller to within an inch of it's life. If it doesn't come off, I heat the hub with my propane torch and keep my body parts out of the way. usually just walk off and after a while BANG - off it goes.

I just got it off... no prop puller, but I had a universal two-arm puller... wrapped a short length of chain around the back of the prop and hooked the puller to the chain... had to go at a little angle to get around the rudder with the threaded end of the puller. Tightened until I was scared, then took a hammer to the damaged prop...it's going off for repair anyway it popped after a couple more turns on the puller and about a dozen whacks. 1578 shipped today.

Seth we'll be camping at the big group camp at Rocky Point Aug 9-11. Boat will be anchored off the campground.

I also have a 2000 SAN,the prop on it now is a 14x18. I'd like to see how a 16 pitch prop compares to the 18. What's the pitch on the new prop you've ordered?

There's a ton of info on it if you search the forums. It's the Acme 1578, used to be called the 1464.
