Broken Impeller, can't find all the pieces.

Saturday, my new to me 2002 Super Sport (Excalibur 330) overheated due to the badly damaged impeller. I flushed out the cooling system the best I could, disconnected all hoses except at the transmission. I only found a few pieces that were in one of the manifolds. Should I be worried about not finding the rest of it? Can the pieces flush themselves out eventually?

Also, I have the new impeller and a thermostat on the way. With it overheating is there any other damage I should look for? The temp never rose above 200 deg.

    Thanks

I had the same problem. Check the thermostat housing and tranny cooler. After my burn up I didn't find any pieces and I disconnected and flushed everything above and below the RWP. I showed the impeller to a marine mechanic who reckoned a good deal of the impeller would have been burnt up. After a while I stopped worrying about it. About 40 hrs on the boat since with no issues.

    Good luck,

    D.

Had the same thing happen in my 03 SAN. Flushed as best as I could and threw a new impeller in and called it a day. Have about 17 hours since then and I am running about 10 degrees cooler than before... either way you should be fine.

The same thing happened on my 02 SAN, and was unable to find most of the impeller pieces. It kept overheating after for the next few times I ran it (just tested the temp using a hose hooked up to the Raw water pump drawing water out of a bucket). Turned out that one of the ends of the metal transmission cooler had folded over a bit (no idea how that happened), and the hose wasn't seated over the end 100%, allowing air to be drawn in. Went crazy trying to tighten and retighten the hose clamps. Just something else to check if you have problems.

+1 on this. More often than not they will end up getting stuck just before the tranny cooler.
