    2002 SAN electrical issues

I just picked up an 02 SAN here in Australia to upgrade from my 89 SN2001, but I'm having a couple of minor issues with it.

Firstly there is no code to punch in to start the boat. Just turn the toggle switch on, hit start 3 times and it fires up. Is this normal or has something been by-passed ?

When I hit the fill switch for the ballast the engine will try to start. If the engine is running and I hit fill it will try to engage the starter. Empty switch works ok, pump will start up.

The horn also does not work.

There is no display on the perfect pass digital pro.

If anyone can shed any light on any of these issues I would greatly appreciate it.

Perfect pass - I found the fuse had blown, inspected the wiring from the servo and paddle wheel back to the dash and came to the centre ski pole. Whoever replaced the ski pole jammed the wiring between the pole and engine frame squashing it flat. I peeled the outer sheathing off and one wire was broken and other possible shorting to the pole/frame. Will need to replace those 2 sections of wiring and the fuse before I can test those further.

Key code - sounds like there is no key code at all hence 3 start button pushes.

These keypads in the older model boats were very troublesome. When I had an issue with mine I was told by my dealer that they could change the code or remove the code all together so you only have to use the start button. They had some sort of kit that if you open up the breaker box it can plug in to something inside and allows you to change\remove code. I never did as I managed to get mine working again.

It does sound like that is what has been done to yours.

You can change the code yourself according to the manual. I never had any luck trying to change the code. Not sure if you change the code yourself if you can change it so you have no code. I may be wrong on that though.

      Hope this helps

Thanks hyparks. I spoke to a dealer here who also confirmed that you don't need a code if one hasn't been programmed in.

As for my ballast issue, I traced out the wiring from the pumps all the way to the computer under the dash. The fill, empty and ground wire for the ballast all run in there own split corrugated conduit so there is no chance of a short between the ignition and fill wire. I'm going to say that its either the keypad or the computer. The keypads are pretty worn and I wanted to replace them anyway so they are on their way. Hopefully its not the computer.

Maybe I should keep the 81 and 89 nauts - they are so simple to fix!
