    Ballast pump trouble shooting

Had a mechanic guy replace/fix the ballast pumps on my 2007 210 Superair and the ballast system never worked. It's hard to trouble shoot with a boat load of kids who want to tube all day and I didn’t want to leave it with mechanic for another 2 weeks

While on the river, I somehow I filled the tank after pushing the keypad button a bunch of times. At that point when I tried to drain the tank (pushed and held the button until the indicator light began to flash), water started flowing out the vent. This indicated that the pump was running in reverse. It was draining while the indicator light was solid and filling while the indicator light was flashing.

This meant that the lead wires at pump were opposite what they should be since the main relay was never touched.

At home, I cut the wires and switched the positive and negative wires (reversed the polarity). I then connected the suction side of the pump to a 5 gallon bucket of water and started the pump to fill at the keypad. Sure enough it sucked down the water in no time.
I then reconnected the normal suction hose and started the pump to drain and sure enough it pump the water out the normal drain

I checked the belly pump using the same method (5 gallon bucket of water on the suction side) and sure enough it’s wires were reversed too. I switch those wires as well.

I’ll be heading out on Labor Day and I hope to get in a little surfing in between tubing runs.

Anyway, the take home message, the water bucket test helped me determine if the pump would pump and in what direction.
Maybe this will help someone out there. You guys have helped me before. thanks
