Impeller and cam screw on 85 2001

Last fall when I was winterizing I went ahead and changed the impeller for the first time. I hadn't used the boat until this last weekend and after a fair amount of use I noticed a ton of water in the boat. It is coming out of the side of the impeller housing where the cam screw should be. The screw is completely gone. I didn't know what this was when I changed the impeller and now I am wondering if there is anything I need to check or redo before simply replacing the cam screw (does it need to be adjusted a certain way, did I do something incorrect to cause it to fallout?). I also need to know what size screw to put back into the hole. The boat seemed to stay cool (luckily) but, I just want to make sure everything is back the way it should be before taking the boat out again.

    Any help is appreciated

RE: Impeller and cam screw on 85 2001

I have an '87, and the screw in my pump is a brass 1/4-20 x 3/8" long fillister head screw. There is a nylon washer under the head of the screw to make it water tight. No adjustment is required, just make sure it is tight.

Make sure the end of the screw does not go past the cam plate!! If it does, you will tear up the impeller real quick.

Be sure to check in the bilge area for the original screw. Maybe you will get lucky.
