    Need Advice - Intermitent Beaping

Greetings all. Wrapping up my 2nd season with my 2004 SV211 showing 312 hours. I was out this evening with my bride and my daugther, when shortly after starting the boat, I noticed a beeping noise that went off intermitently ever few mins or so.

Obviously, I thought the boat was trying to tell me something. I scrolled thru both menus (one on the Tach and one on the speedometer) and didn't see any messages. I opened the engine hatch, thinking there might be excessive water in the bilge - negative, all looked cool there. Check engine light wasn't on. Fireboy wasn't discharged....all seemed cool with the exception of the beeping.

So we drove it for about 15 mins to a restaurant for dinner - enduring these intermitent beeps. I then noticed the volt meter was hovering at exactly 12 volts. I would have expected it to run slightly over that while the motor is running...then also cross referenced the menu on the tach showing it running at 12 volts. On the way back from dinner (night time, so the running lights were on) I noticed the volts were now reading 11.9. Hmmmm. Am I about to lose my alternator?

I'm a computer guy and don't know which end of the wrench to hold, but was just trying to logic my way thru this troubleshooting exercise, and was hoping I could get some guidance from you all who are more experienced here.

Should my volts be reading higher than 11.9-12.0 volts? Would that cause this intermitent beeping? Am I on the verge of a bigger electrical problem?

I look forward to your advice.

I normally get about 14.3 volts when the motor is running. I don't know on the beep, but you should check your battery connections, fuses, relays, and alternator. You should be getting at least 13.5 while the motor is on.

The beeping is low voltage most likely, if you watch the led in your center gauges it will flash the issue when beeping. Definitely check your battery connections and battery, may want to charge the battery overnight and see if that helps. What type and how old is your battery?

A voltage reading that low indicates your charging system isn't working, you were running off the battery. You should sees a min of 13.2 volts when running above idle,. I agree that the beep was probably low voltage, as 12 volts is considered low voltage.

Only the 2nd season with these batteries (I actually have 2 batteries sitting behind a battery selecter switch that I put in the beginning of last season, so I can run the stereo while floating without having to worry about starting). Worked fine all of last season and this season.

I went down and insepcted battery connections - all were tight and uncorreded. While running the boat it still showed 12.0 volts. For grins (while boat is running), I turned on running lights, stereo and blower - volts dropped to 11.7 volts. Starting to think it is an alternator. Pulled the boat this morning and dropped it off at the mechanics.

Once resolved, I'll post the results.

          Thanks for the feedback.

            +1 on alternator.

We're you low on gas? Could be the annoying low fuel alarm...
