Im upgrading my Teleflex gauges to Faria (speedo & tach). I also want to upgrade to Star Gazer PP and would like to know if these 2 upgrades can go together?? My Nauti is already equipped with stock PP.
Thanks,Ron
Not sure, but if they can't, then I do know that the Nauticlaugic gps add-on (which ties into where the paddlewheel connector would otherwise tie-in) will work, as that is exactly what I am using now with my Faria gauge replacements for my 2000. But Stargazer is more than just GPS-based speed control, so if you are looking for Stargazer's other features, then my post will not help you. All the nauticlaugic system does is replace the paddlewheel with GPS. Everything else stays exactly the same as whatever your current PP provides. For example, I was able to keep my single-line display and master module, whereas if I had upgraded to Stargazer, I would have had to upgrade not only the master module but also the display. I have had both displays, and I personally prefer the 1 line to the 4 line, so Nauticlaugic was perfect for me. Might not be for you, depending on your preferences.

Thanks muchly for your replay,,,real good info. Im still just gathering information and your points are just what I need to make a decision. I havent even put my boat in the water yet so what I have just might be all ok,,,you know how it gos once you start reading and getting informed,,,kinda makes you want to upgrade stuff. OK thanks again.
Ron
Your paddlewheel would be hooked up to your existing perfect pass, assuming you have an existing perfect pass. As crobi2 said, the pitot tubes drive the teleflex gauges. If you don't have an existing perfect pass, then I would probably just add stargazer and not bother with the faria gauges. In fact, there is really no need to change out the gauges if you have any perfect pass system other than aesthetics. If you have a single line display, you won't see rpms and speed at the same time, so you might want an analog tach to see rpms if you typically run PP in mph mode. However, if you get stargazar I think (you would need to confirm) that the 4 line display shows mph and rpm at the same time. PP also can store hours, so you don't need the analog tach for that either.

I agree with Chexi, if you find you don't have a paddle wheel for your perfect pass (PP cruise-RPM based), go for the Stargazer upgrade and use the new PP gauge for speedometer and tachometer (that's what we have been doing for the past few years).
I only just the other day finally ordered a faria tachometer, because I want to see the needle.
P.S. Chexi is right, our gauge shows the speed and RPM on our stargazer upgrade

Very good info and I thank you. What I have is a stock SANTE and the teflex gauges I cant read. I ordered the MPH and Tach kit replacement and I will pull the pod to see whats up. Since I have the paddle wheel PP and havent tried it out yet it just might be just fine as is....if not I will move forward to looking at up grading to the star gazer. Im kinda the type that likes a nice looking instrument panel,,,boats planes trains big rigs their panels just capture me. OK gauges will be here soon and I will keep ya updated,,,Im sure I will have more questions,,,big THANKS again.
Ron
1. Is your PP presently installed (i.e., do you already have a paddlewheel installed)?
2. Do you ride on rivers (especially faster moving rivers)?
I ask #1 because, if you do not already have a hole in your boat for the paddlewheel, you might want to just skip that whole process (which is nerve-wracking for some) and get the Stargazer or Nauticlaugic upgrades.
I ask #2 because if you ride on a river with more than a negligible current, you probably still want your PP to be paddlewheel based, because otherwise you are going to get noticeably different riding speeds for going down river versus up. I ride Lake Austin (more of a than a lake), which has what I consider to be a negligible current, and use a GPS based system and do not notice a difference. However, for regular rivers, GPS is typically not recommended.

Yes PP is presently installed (02 SANTE) with paddle wheel. All my boating is on lakes,,,no currents. FYI: My PP is a single line read. QUESTION,,,, when I power up my PP boat sitting on trailer are those engine hours it shows correct?? On the existing teleflex gauge I cant make out the reading of engine hours.
If the PP has been installed since the boat was first manufactured, the PP hours should be correct, assuming the master module has never been replaced.
If you are mechanically inclined and know how to solder, there was a guy who figured out how to fix the Teleflex gauges. If you google it, you should be able to find it. Since you already ordered the replacements, you may not care, but it could confirm your hours if you fix them before swapping them out.

Should be all factory install the hours are low (237). I did read about the teleflex fix but the faria gauges are on their way,,,I will keep the old gauges incase a buyer might want them. OK install will be soon and I have been going over the instructions,,looks like a simple plug and play upgrade. Sure is nice to know there is help here if needed.
Thanks,Ron
I think I am going to upgrade my 02 to Stargazer and a Precision star speedo. I know that is redundant, but I want stargazer. For the price of the upgraded Faria gauges I can get the precision star speedo. I was thinking about installing a stand alone hour meter under the throttle by the ballast gauges.
Those are 2 very nice units and will work well. I to want to install a stand alone hour meter in the same place you are talking about,,,just need to make sure it only counts hours when the engine is running. Keep me posted on your install and how it gos.
Another thing I would like to do is install some courtesy lighting. My idea is to use that rope lighting and tuck it up under the gunnel rail,,,it would run around the perimeter of the boat. The existing courtesy light switch does nothing rt now that I know of.
