Ram-Lin trailer brakes hot after 4 miles

New to the owning a boat thing so I don't know much about trailers. When I backed into the garage today there was an obvious burning smell. I couldn't fine it in the boat then I noticed the fender was hit. I flicked some water on the disc and they were sizzling. I have a duel axle ramlin with disc brakes on the front axle and they are surge brakes. I've never had any problems with it before and it wasn't like I could tell a huge difference on the way home pulling it either. I feel like the brakes must have been barely engaged all the way home. Both sides were really hot but not smoking. I doubt this matters but its a 03 SAN. I have the five plug cable that disengages the brakes in reverse. Any ideas?

Your brake away cable may be pulled out which is applying brakes and creating the heat.

You mentioned backing up. That leads me to think that maybe your reverse solenoid is going bad leaving the breaks partly engaged in reverse. If the solenoid is actually going bad it might also might cause the brakes to not fully release.
If it was me I would preform a quick bleed of the system and then take it for a drive. Then jack up the tires and spin them by hand.

I would also check the breakaway cable. That would be a much simpler problem to fix.

Ok. Where the heck is the break away cable for future reference? It turns out it was the small rubber brake line that is in the swing away portion of the tongue but this may be what y'all were talking about.

Are you saying that the brake line in the swing away tongue was the issue causing the brakes to apply and heat up??
