Put a line of paint from one side of the pump housing (the fixed side) to the other (the side that comes off). Then you not only will know the proper orientation, you will also have perfect alignment when you are trying to put the whole thing back together.

Is the 02 suppose to run at 143 degrees? My 97 ran at 160 and my 02 runs around 140 per the gauge. I always thought there was something wrong with my sending unit in the 02.

Ours ran at 160 F until the bearings fell out of the Sherwood and it started sucking air and went into limp mode.

With a new Sherwood on there it rarely makes it up to 160, more around 140ish

That's an excellent idea but on this year-model pump it's impossible to get it wrong. The screw holes will only line up one way. You just turn it 1/3 at a time until they line up.
