I have a 96 SN with the GT-40 engine. On the lake today I noticed the Overheat/Low oil pressure light on dash looked to be on. It was very dim.I actually had to cup my hands around it and turn off and back on the ignition to make sure it was on. I checked the impellor just to make sure. The temp. gage never got above 150 degrees all weekend. Also with engine running I could hold my hand on the exhaust manifolds. The oil pressure was 30-50psi depending on RPM. Is there an audible alarm that goes along with the warning light and how bright is the light if you really do overheat? Doesn't the engine go to limp mode if you really have problems? Thanks for any help!

RE: Engine overheat/Low oil pressure warning light
That light will go on when you have a bad oil pressure switch or a bad temp sensor. Disconnect the oil pressure switch and see if the light goes out. If it does, you need to replace that switch. If it stays on, reconnect that and disconnect the temp sensor.
On that vintage of a boat, the light does no good to protect you from overheats. The boat will go to limp mode if it starts to overheat bad enough.

Thanks skinautique,
The water temp sensor is new put it in back in march. I did disconnect the temp gage wire and overheat warning light wire from the water temp sensor since they both use the same one and the light went out. I will go to the oil pressure switch next unless you think it could be the water temp sensor.
