    Raw water impeller question.

I have a 2005 SAN 210 TE with Excalibur motor with a serpentine belt. According to my engine parts manual, I should be using the RP061022 raw water impeller. I pulled the old impeller and it does not look the same as the new RP061022. The old impeller has thicker vanes and thicker tips, it also seems a bit taller and larger diameter. Do the impeller swell or did the previous owner install the wrong impeller, or has the pump been changed? I am not sure what to look for but here are some photos comparing the old with the new. The old impeller looks chewed up a bit.

Check with White Lake and make sure this is the right part for that engine, but it looks correct to me. Keep in mind that an old impeller will look like the one in the bottom of your photo. The vanes will be bent over and worn. That's expected.

I was thinking the same thing, it looks like the right part as compared to mine and all the 03 and newer serpentine belt systems are supposed to be the same. One other thought I had was unless it was run dry then however many hours it was since it was last changed was about twice as long as I would wait the next time that thing looks like it is coming apart. I would hate to have to go hunting for bits of impeller when a new one is ~35 bucks.

Weird. It does look different but I just changed the impeller on our two club 196's, one with the 5.7 Excalibur and one with the 6.0 and they both use part number RP061022. You are good to go. Put some binding slime on it and twist it in in the same direction as it will turn when running. Slime will keep it lubricated until it gets water when you fire it up.

I'm with jonsquatch, change at least every other year, we do ours every year. Cheap insurance to help prevent a breakdown and keeps rubber parts out of the engine.

Thanks for your feedback. Can someone send a photo of a new RP061017? I think this is the impeller that the previous owner put in. The reason I think this is because of the PCM engine parts manual.
This first diagram (from the PCM Engine Parts manual) is of the serpentine pump and the impeller I ordered RP061022.

This is the diagram for the pump in my boat and the impeller looks like the one I ordered (no twist in the vanes).

This next diagram is for one of the other two pump configurations where RP061017 impeller is called for.

This diagram shows that impeller has a twist to the vanes already. I really think the previous owner put the wrong impeller in and I have no idea how long it was used like this, but probably for 3 years.

That looks like the same one to me. If that ones been in there a while and been heated up (maybe over a few times) it may deform just a bit, i've seen it. It appears just barely larger (smooshed) than the new one. If you have trouble squeezing it in, take a little zip strip to compress the vanes the way you need them to go, then just snip (or pull) it off once in place.

I would not go by the diagram, as the curve in the veins could simply be artistic license. But, there is no way those two impellers are the same part. If you can find a model number on the pump, or take a picture of the pump, and send it to Nautiqueparts.com (Whitelake Marine), and ask your question, they will help you out. There is a 10% discount code on this site should you need to buy a different impeller.

One additional note: if the the prev. owner winterized with the impeller installed - that too could cause the impeller to swell.

The impeller looks the same to me. Mine looks similar when it comes out and I change mine frequently. Note my old one is on the left.

Here is a link to my "how to" instructions.

                  AirTool,
Thanks for the links. I think I am convinced now that what was in the boat was the correct impeller RP061022, based on the impeller hubs and the mating pump shafts, RP061022 has two flat sides. RP061017 has a keyway that fits on a keyed shaft and I have read that some of the older impellers have a splined shaft. I think it is remarkable how much the impeller swelled, stretched, and deformed, but I am sure it was because it had been in the pump over multiple winters.
