    05 Nautique Dripless Packing

In the process of installing a Dripless packing system into our 05 196 with an Excalibur engine.

Boat came from the factory with a tapered shaft on both ends so getting the shaft out of the shaft coupler was pretty straightforward. After removing the nut inside the coupler I used the 4 longer bolts and a socket technique, penetrating oil, a touch of heat, and a rap with a hammer and it popped off.

Our other club boat and my personal boat have the 6.0 so I am not sure where to tap in to get water for the PSS. If somebody would be so kind as to either post a picture of give a description of where to tap in for cooling water for the seal I would be eternally grateful and probably buy you a beer if we ever meet.
    Thanks
    Jim

Seriously guys, I need to get this boat out of my garage so I can get mine in. What I need is the location of the water source for cooling the dripless packing. I know it has to come after the water pump but not sure where. I have a Nautique lit wall display from a dealer and whoever posts the answer gets it for free!

How's this work for you: http://www.themalibucrew.com/forums/index.php?/topic

I was winterizing my 99 the other day and noticed the small plug on the tranny cooler and wondered what it was for. As long as your trans cooler has this I think it's your best bet.

That wall display sounds like it would look good in my garage. If you are serious I will pm you my address. If not I'm still happy to help.

Sorry just realized the link didn't go to the topic I wanted. Here is what I was trying to link to: an easy and good location to tap into for a water source is the 1/8" pipe plug on the bottom of your transmission cooler, mounted on the front of your engine. Pick up an appropriate sized nipple and thread into the cooler drain, and then plumb the line from there to your PSS seal. It's cold water, has good water flow, and easy to install.

We install all our PSS shaft seals this way.

Thanks Shawn. I don't think this will work on an excalibur in the 196 because it is in front, or on the suction side, of the water pump. Inlet>Strainer>Transmission cooler>Impeller>Engine. Being on the suction side of the impeller water would flow from the PSS instead of to it.
Send me a PM with your address for your effort and let me know if you are sure this will work. As it happens I have two of these displays, how about some conformation? Really want to get this boat out of my garage. I will post some pics of the install afterwards if someone else decides to install one.

Ok let's try this again. Looks like the exhaust manifold will work for sure. http://skidim.blogspot.com/2008/10/o...tallation.html. This is for a closed cooled ZR6 but step 10 shows this works for raw water cooled as well.

            PM sent

It should be plumbed to the outlet of the RWP (not the inlet) as you want the high pressure side to force water down through the seal and out the shaft log, not pull it in.
