Wrong thermostat housing gasket?

Hey guys,
I ordered a new gasket for my thermostat housing on my 2011 EX343 from nautique parts and the holes don't line up. The description of the gasket said it was for all PCM GM 5.0 and 5.7L from 2002-on. Am I missing something?

I think the only thing you are missing....is the right gasket.

Haha fair enough. The part number I ordered was RM0258A. Was I supposed to order a different gasket?

I don't know and maybe the number is right but they grabbed the wrong one...those are usually bulk.

Did it come in a package?

You probably need this one. Note I couldn't find it on the www.nautiqueparts.com site but just call them.

Yeah, just call them. They'll know exactly what's up, and if they sent you the wrong thing, they'll certainly make it right.

Exactly and maybe suggest they stick it in a stiff envelope w/a cheap mail stamp instead of expensive shipping.

The ex 343 Catanium system uses a slightly different thermostat housing (silly change if you ask me). The gaskets look close to the same until you get on the housing. If it is a non Cat engine it uses the gasket you ordered. If it is Cat it takes the other newer gasket. I stock both for warranty work.

That's the issue then. I'll speak to the folks at WL about it since I didn't see that one available on the site. Thanks for the help. One last thing.....is it sufficient to put the gasket on dry or will sealant be required?

Since 1980, give or take, I've only used wheel bearing grease on gaskets in water service like that. I coat both sides with grease and then wipe off the excess. I NEVER put any sticky stuff or sealant or glue or indian head on gaskets for water pumps, stat covers, etc.

I've had to take the cover off my 93 c1500 several times (I bought the truck new). After the first time, I probably could have re-used the gasket. But, of course, I didn't.

Ok just replaced my t-stat and gasket and I'd like to know why in the heck is that little brass bushing in the gasket? First time I fired my motor up after replacing gasket I noticed it was leaking water. I immediately suspected the culprit was the brass ring which appeared to fat and wasn't allowing the gasket to seal properly. So I took gasket out and tore out the ring, put everything back together and worked like a charm.

Question is: will this cause a issue in long term? Or was this little ring in the gasket for another application because it appears to do nothing on a 08 343.


Oh and kiddos to whitelake, ordered my parts on Saturday and the showed up in WI today!
