My 2008 196 low pressure pump went out the first run of the season in 2011. I only had 120 hours on the boat. My dealership had it running on a fake-a-lake the day before, so I think they just die on you? I dropped in and made one run around the lake, then poof, motor stopped. If not for my neighbor being around, I'd have been screwed. We had a wicked current the day, and I was trying to row away from a rocky shore with my ski.

Not sure if there is a newer thread about preemptively replacing fuel pumps, but this is the first one that came up. I'm at 1020 hours. Bought the boat with about 700 hours on it, so don't know for sure if original pumps or not. My last fuel filter was eight years old with 120 hours on it. I completely forgot about changing the fuel filter. It's supposed to be done every year, but I'll probably use ethanol free gas and replace about every three years since the boat doesn't get much use. My fuel pump fuse blew and I suspect maybe because the fuel filter was restricted, We'll see. It actually looked pretty clean inside the FCC canister. I never did the drain the water from the bottom of the FCC procedure either. Guess I won't need to worry about that either if changing filter every three years. If it keeps blowing I'll probably replace fuel pumps.
Is there an automotive low pressure fuel pump that is cheaper than the marine one?

I would never replace any PCM fuel pumps preemptively. The PCM FCC setup is the best fuel system out there and I've had multiple boats where they've run into the 3 and 4k hour ranges w/o being touched. Matter of fact, when any of my MasterCraft / Ilmor in tank fuel pumps fail, I retrofit a PCM FCC to the boat.
