    Dumb question on trans cooler/trans

Ok. I am pretty sure on this, but thought I would ask before I whiff on my winterization this year.

Question is the trans cooler cools the transmission fluid with the inlet water via an exchanger right? In other words there is no water in the trans. The lines from the trans to the cooler are trans fluid correct?

That is correct. The bullet shaped transmission oil cooler will have a water drain plug on one end for you to drain the water.

If your boat has a Walters v-drive the water drain plugs are on the vdrive itself. I'm not sure about the newer PCM vdrives.

Thanks! Wanted to make sure I wasn't missing some draining step.

This is a old DD with a PCM 40, so don't have to mess with the v-drive.

That trans cooler should lay flat. Be careful if you aren't using the drain plug and the cooler is level to the ground. It will hold some water under the level of the taper down to the hose size. This wasn't an issue with the older DD boats as their trans coolers sit vertically so removing a hose is all that was needed.
