Fishy smell on SV211

I'm embarrased to post this but I'm just baffled and curious to see if anyone else has had this problem....

I have an 05 SV211 Team that is only 4 months old. I keep it in the garage and very clean. However there is a definte fishy smelling odor coming from either under the floor board, under the rear pass thru or under the loveseat area (port side near the rear). I don't smell it all the time but it's definitely there as multiple people have noticed it.

I leave all the compartments open to dry, I've emptied out all the gear and searched for what I presume may be a dead fish but no luck. Has anyone else had this problem? Are there maybe some chemicals or compents used in new boat construction that smell "fishy"?

Oh, and before any of you ask, I don't even own a fishing pole....

You are not alone.

I purchased a used 02' SANTE that was used in an infamously bacterial lake. After closer inspection it appeared that the boat had been left in the water and the bilge had filled to a certain level, this was evident by some water lines in the hull. We had an excessively wet winter in Socal, so it was hard for me to completely dry the boat out for a month or two.

The ski locker has all that ballast stuff in it, but there is a brown black substance which is either mildew or a bacterial growth that attaches itself to everything. It is evident on the aluminum plate that runs along the length of the hull. There were water lines on the ballast tank and growth there too. The smell is "fishy", but also somewhat like strong mildew. It's in the carpets as well. When out on the lake and riders getting in and out, the floor get's wet and the smell increases. I have considered cleaning the carpets with some mildew killer and perhaps spraying the exposed hull areas with the same. I have some anti-fungal stuff that kills mildew and a garden sprayer, so I may go after it with that and see.

Are you running on less than clean lakes?? It could have something to do with that. The lake this boat was run on previously was notorious for smell due to some waste water that enters. I have little doubt that there is bacteria or mildew growing in the hull and carpets.

I don't know exactly where you are located, but here in OK - the fish are spawning (or whatever you call it), so if I leave my boat in the water overnight, I will have a line of fish eggs that have to be SCRUBBED off.

Well I live in San Diego. I do use the boat in Mission Bay occassionally (salty and dirty) and at San Vicente (lots of alge bloom this year) but never over-night. I take the precaution of pulling the drain plug everytime and I let the boat air out in the garage with all the hatches/seats open but I still get the smell. I am going to take out the battery box and dig around further to see if I have any bacteria per your suggestion FLUX.

I don't know if it would help, but I use "Con-San triple action twenty" (don't know if that is the proper spelling) to kill mildew etc on walls. You might spray the inner hull with it, and i don't believe it would hurt the carpet, but I would test it in a hidden spot first.

Found the "fish"

So take a look at this picture and see if you can spot it.....

If you guessed that the flex tubing running from the outside vent to the exhaust manifold looked a little low you guessed right. It was full of water! Not sure if the water got in there while boating or during washdown but there sure was alot of water in this breather tube.....

Tyler check with your nautique dealer and see if there is a fix for the bilge blower hose for your vin number.

Nice Job Tyler... I noticed today that the smell I had was coming from the water filter... I was amazed how bad it smelled with a little seaweed in it! Now I'll have to check my breather tube also!

nms1991- My boat was one of those effected by the recall and I thought it was already addressed in my last service. I will have to double check. Thanks for the suggestion.
