    Rudder Assembly Grease Fitting

On my air nautique 211 there is a grease hose that goes down to the rudder assembly. When I tried to pump some marine grease in, It went about half a pump then locked up. Is that normal? I would have thought that instead of locking the grease gun, grease would start to come out of the assembly. Should I be worried about a clog in the line or near the fitting near the assembly? I know the grease gun and plug is working properly.

This typically happens when the old grease in the grease canal (in the housing) has gotten contaminated causing it to stiffen up and not push or flow when new grease is pushed into the system. You can usually force new grease if you have a grease gun that you can apply good pressure with (lever pump vs. pistol grip pump). This will be ok...but you will not get good grease throughout the entire canal. Worse case, might have to disassemble and clean. Just my thoughts...
    Peace..

Thats probably the issue. The rudder has absolutely no play and it moves fluidly. Do you think the best idea would just be to leave it alone and pull it apart when it needs to be repacked when it starts to gain some play? Will I do any damage/allow corrosion if I don't fix this issue?

If you can rotate and detect no "hard" spots, noise or slight grinds...should be ok. Just keep an eye on it. It is not a joint that is susceptible to heat or rapid reversal of direction motions (such as in power equipment) ...so low risk.

It rotates fluidly. No grinds or hard spots. Thank you.
