    97 Sport GT-40 starting issues

So my 97 sport is having starting issues. I think it's the battery cables or the connections that are the issue. The reason I think that is because if I can't get it to start I pull the battery out, wiggle the cables and it will generally start right up. I have a few questions though.
Does this sound like the cables or the battery connection?
As you can seee in the attached picture the connection is quite rusty. I would like to get new connectors different than what I have on there.
In the other picture what is this other smaller red wire coming off the battery and what is this black thing just above my fingers?

Yep replace that terminal. Check the condition of the battery cables. I would strip that cable back a inch or so and check for corrosion of the cable strands. If you have the right tools solder a new terminal to cable if possible.

That is the EEC fuse. There was a retrofit to remove that fuse as it was a known problem source.

Thanks. I was thinking about just replacing the whole battery cable itself but do you see overkill?

Battery cables are pretty cheap in my mind.
Also I have the exact same boat as you. I had the same problem when I bought it from the PO. There was another connection that was loose where the cables come off the battery and go into a splitter that has a rubber boot around it. That's where my problem was.
