    Starboard vs UHMW

Have limited experience w these materials and wondering what others have experienced pros vs cons of these two products? UHMW (polyethylene) is same material as "plastic" cutting boards are made of. Seems that UHMW is about half the price of Starboard and I would like to get some to make some projects with including a manual NSS system for our boat. Any input appreciated.

I'm an engineer for the Navy and we just got done testing a rudder bushing made from UHMW 819 and it performed very well. We conducted side by side testing with other composite materials and it had the least amount of water absorption. One thing to note it does expand and contract a bit based on temperature. Just something to keep in mind during fabrication.

I've used some before for glides when I ran my sled into the box of my truck, this stuff really expands and contracts with weather. I used PL400 to glue it down to 5/8" marine grade plywood in the fall, the following spring when it got fairly warm out it pulled the strips away from the plywood AND pulled the screws out as well, which really surprised me. I knew it would move, but didn't realize it would expand and contract that much
