Ignition Switch Key very stiff

We used the boat on Friday and all went well. We went out today 2 days later and the ignition switch went from fine to stiff and nearly unturable. We finally got it to move with some force. The key would stick so bad that the starter would stay engaged of we didn't back off the key a bit. It was little bit of a challenge to find the sweet spot to keep the motor running and the starter off. Did we do something wrong or just magically over 2 days the thing decided to rust out?

You didn't post what year the boat is but it probably doesn't matter that much. Just go to a local boat supply store and get a new ignition module. Does your existing one have a "click to the left" to turn on the Accessory bus? If so, make sure the new one does the same.

Dumb question, but were you using the same key both times? If not, maybe the key used the second day is a bad copy that isn't an exact match. If that is not the case then swapping out the ignition module like Charles suggested above is cheap and easy.

Thanks for the info. The key was the same key. I'll order a new one. Good thing they are inexpensive.
