    2005 Air 206 Fuel Pump

I ordered my new Air 206 in December and took delivery Memorial Day Weekend. Launched the boat and halfway thru my second turn the engine died. Would not restart and submitted to a tow by a Malibu. Took boat out 2 more times and same thing. Dealer retrieved the boat and installed new fuel pump. He then tested the boat for 6 hours of running time and delivered back. I relaunched the boat and halfway thru my second ball engine died. Same symptoms and had to withstand another Malibu tow.
PCM and CorrectCraft have not exuded any confidence on a permanent fix. I have less than 30 minutes of runtime on this boat (dealer has 6+ hours) and it now has over 10 hours on the meter. It has gone from being new to a demo.
    I seek advice and counsel.

No one ever likes to hear it (unlike cars), but PCM is responsible for engine. What did they say? cant imagine they r just brushing it off.
Did your dealer talk to pcm after the 2nd time? (how experienced is mechanic; maybe there are more experienced pcm mechanic in the area). With more info, u get better feedback

I'm sure the dealer will get this worked out quickly. I can understand your frustration though. There is a service bulletin out concerning the fuel pumps on some '05 model boats, and your symptoms sound like what the service bulletin describes. I would have thought that a new fuel pump would have fixed your issue. Give your dealer another crack at it. They'll get it worked out.

Some fuel pumps have revealed signs of contamination, and others have revealed an internal problem. Most failures have been at start up, during dealer prep, or within the first few hours of operation. In an effort to minimize failures, the manufacturer of the fuel pumps has made an internal change.

If you experience a fuel delivery problem, perform the normal test procedures using the fuel pressure gauge. In this type of failure, if there is no fuel pressure and the low pressure fuel pump cycles when the key is operated, the low pressure fuel pump should be replaced with a new fuel pump referencing a date code of 5D or later. When installing the new pump, make sure you do not put too much thread sealer on the inlet side of the fuel pump.

See your local Correct Craft dealer for more information. This bulletin only applies to 2005 model year boats with low pressure fuel pumps that show a date code of earlier than 5D.

A new fuel pump could have fixed problem but could new fuel pump have wrong or bad code on it? But give your dealership another try before getting to mad. By the way did you post on another forum about this problem?

Thanks for the feedback guys. When the engine sputters it makes an abrasive sucking noise and then dies. It seems to be reacting to no fuel incoming. The tank is full. When I am able to restart it revs quite high and then slowly settles down and I can cruise for 1 minute then it starts to backfire and dies. I am not enjoying this movie.

I'd make three phone calls. The first to CC's customer service. I would make sure they know that this is going on. I would also ask them if they had any ideas. Get the bug in their ear now. Second, I would call PCM. Tell them what is going on and get their feedback. I would then call my dealer tell them what you found out and tell them politely to contact CC and PCM so they can get the needed advice for a fix and get that boat back on the water before summer is over. You bought a brand new boat. CC and PCM should respond immediately. Be a squeeky wheel.

I have talked to CC, PCM and the dealer and they are definitely on the case but with 3 weeks to go before my year-long planned month-long vacation it curently feels like a keystone cops caper. There is even intimation that it is potentially the operator's error. 20 years of boat driving and $50K for this boat and I dont like what I am hearing. How do I ever rely on this boat?

I had the same problem with my 05 Ski 206. I had the fuel pump replaced and haven't had a problem since.

I too had the low presure fuel pump go out on my first time out. The dealer replaced it and it has been running great ever since. I would keep your fingers crossed and just hope by some horrible chance the new one they put on was bad also. Good luck!

Dealer has been able to replicate failure and currently testing the theory that 2 anti-siphon valves (instead of 1) were erroneously installed on the fuel return line.

                              Fuel Pumps

I may be able to shed some light on this delay in your boating. PCM has the highest quality standards but even a NASA can be fouled by its vendors. There was a group of bad pumps supplied to PCM and the rest of the marine industry and this is the reason for your two failures.
PCM has reacted with great speed to next day air pumps, change out dealer stock and I'm sure your problem will be resolved shortly. Thanks.
