Made a little addition for the electric Sun Deck 2000 SAN

So I have had an off and on again issue with the engine cover/ sun deck on my 2000 SAN. I think it is the relays so I swear if I have the issue again I will switch them out. It may have just been a bad connection which I fixed and havn't had issues since, so I will do the relays if I have an issue again. But this did make me realize that if the battery is dead, it will be such a pain the a$$ to get to the battery and jump it to then turn the boat on and get the engine hatch up. So what I did was run some extra wires from the hydraulic under the back seat and screwed them down with some bolts. In the event the battery is dead I can hook my jumper up to the 2 bolts and turn it on. This is essentially jumping the hydraulic and getting the engine cover up to give me access to the battery or whatever it that is wrong. Just thought I would pass it on as a helpful little pre-emptive set up.

Good idea! Also remote lugs for the batteries might work too...

Hmm... I bought mine used, so maybe this is not normal, but my back seat just lifts out, giving me access to the battery if it ever needs to be jumped.

^^^ no that is normal. That way if the batter goes dead you can still reach it.

Ever since i got my boat i have been shaking my head about tihis situation. The batteries are located in a compartment that only opens wit battery power....

i would just do what i did and get a second battery and add a perko switch. So you shouldnt have to worry about dead batteries

The back rest should just lift up and off. If you remove the seat bottoms you can get your hands under it and just lift up. There were also pull rings that could be reached on the ram if it goes out. That way you are never stuck with it shut.

As stated above you can lift the back seat up and move the dividers to gain access to the battery. I can see how that is a pain, especially if you are out on the water with a boat full of people. I like your idea in case of emergency. Got any pics?

I thought I was having a relay problem last year but it ended up just being a loose connection. I was having a very hard time sourcing the correct relay as the OEM Hella ones don't seem to be available anymore. If you or anybody finds a correct replacement part please post up the model number because I am sure I will need them sooner or later.

You are right. The back seat does lift off but then you are dealing with the seats, and the back cushion and it involves a little reaching and maneuvering to get to the battery... but very doable. However I am not sure I would be able to get to the pull ring to disconnect the hydraulic arm without really doing some crazy crawling. I am sure it is possible, but much easier to just hook a jumper up to the 2 bolts under the back seat and raise the hatch.

I dont have pics, but I will take some this weekend and post them up. I found some relays that work from West Marine, when I thought that was the problem. I dont have the exact model number and never ended up replacing them (so maybe they dont work, but I got them off another thread here that I can't find now) because the issue went away but I have them ready for the day that is the problem. I will try and take a look at those this weekend and get that to you as well.
