How much water is too much?

So I installed Perfect Pass this weekend and it all went pretty smooth. Took me a total of 3 and half hours between 2 sessions and besides dropping a wrench to the bottom and spending some time getting it out, it went pretty smooth and the directions are pretty clear. When I dropped and was testing I noticed a little water. I wasn't moving as much because I had left the seats off and was making sure everything worked before I zip tied everything off but the bilge would turn on every 5 to 8 minutes and then run for 20 seconds to a minute. When I was driving and going the bilge seemed to run less often. I don't keep my boat in the water and the engine ran fine otherwise. No over heating or anything else. I think I read on here that it is normal for a little water to leak in but how do I know if it is too much? I think it is the drive shaft that some water is leaking out of... am I doing damage if i run it this way?

Sounds like it is time to replace or at least adjust the shaft packing. You might also check the rudder packing while you're in there.

With your packing specs are like 1 drip every 10 secs while running. maybe 1 pump cycle every few hours.

You have too much water coming inside your boat.

Did you by chance leave it in the water for a while with the engine not running? Did the bilge cycle even with the engine off?

Maybe your removed speedo pickup is filling the boat with water? The equalizer tube should prevent that from happening but it is a possibility that I have seen before.

Yes I had it sitting in the water and the bilge would still cycle here and there. If it is suppossed to be 1 drip every 10 seconds then yes I have too much water. Does this sound like the packing box that Jeff spoke of? I found this video about re-packing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BvO22S-qcRU If someone has done this before on a 2000SAN or similar boat let me know if this video is accurate. If it is accurate does anyone know the size GFO I am supposed to use? I would rather have my supplies ready before I open it up and then figure out what I need.

As to the gauge possibility, I dont think that is it because the pitot tubes doesn't go all the way to the gauge. When I cut off the Teleflex speedo there were 7 wires.
