    Gas issue?

2000 San. Had half tank of gas. She ran fine last weekend. Filled her up and she ran ok for a little while. Ate idle it started sputtering and popping. Then stranded we were. Put sea foam in the boat ran fine for a while then same thing happened. Gt 40. Now it will not crank, turn over. Ect. Is this water in the gas or a more significant issue. Please help not boarding on Sunday is garbage!

Was this your first run with the gas that has been sitting in it all winter? Check the fuel filter?

Where do you boat btw, I'm just down the road in Memphis

If it won't crank at all, it's got to be something in addition to fuel related. Battery, starter, kill switch (safety lanyard wiring), wiring, ground. There's an antisiphon valve that gets gummed up. But it doesn't usually stop fuel flow entirely. Just slows it to the point of causing eventual cut outs.

When you turn the key on, can you hear the fuel pump priming?

This can be helpful as well.

If it won't even crank/turn over as you say I'd be leaning toward something electrical related, not fuel related.

Leaning with everyone else twords electrical issue. Might be alternator not working and the battery ran down or the battery was weak and the not holding a charge. Fuel Injection is more sensitive to voltage issues and since everything uses electricity the issues aren't always as easy to diagnose.

This. If the alternator is bad, when the battery dies there is no power for the spark. I'm betting bad alt and dead batt.

I have found over the years some people misuse the terms crank and turn over. So when you hit the key (or the button) the starter doesn't actually engage and maybe just clicks? Or will it physically turn the engine but not start?

Good question. I assumed above that "won't crank/turn over" meant nothing was happening.
