    t-stat gasket question

Ok just replaced my t-stat and gasket and I'd like to know why in the heck is that little brass bushing in the gasket? First time I fired my motor up after replacing gasket I noticed it was leaking water. I immediately suspected the culprit was the brass ring which appeared to fat and wasn't allowing the gasket to seal properly. The original gasket had the ring also but the gasket material seemed much thicker. So I took gasket out and tore out the ring, put everything back together and worked like a charm.

Question is: will this cause a issue in long term? Or was this little ring in the gasket for another application because it appears to do nothing on a 08 343.

I'm not sure what that ring is....but if you DON'T have a closed cooling system, you should be fine. The pressure on there is very low. Might be as low as a pound or two.

If you do have a closed cooling system, you need to watch it for leaks but they will be obvious drips or steam or residue.
The pressure in that system is 15 psi (or whatever cap you have).
