    Hummingbird Depth Gauge

Has anyone else had difficulty with these? Mine will work for a little while and then read a constant 1-0 depth. Has Anyone experience this problem? If so, any ideas on how to fix it?

My boat is a 2001 SAN, does anyone have any idead where the trandsducer is located?

    Thanks.

I have the problem as well. The gage indicates 1.2-1.8 feet all the time. Is there any fix for this?

Same here....hasn't worked correctly since we've had the boat. Dealer has moved and/or sanded and reglued the transducer at least 4 times and tested out a different head unit at one point I think.

It still reads 1.2 feet most of the time....If I push the mode button until the screen is blank, it will read again for a few minutes, but thats it. I'm not sure if its the model or the fact its a through-hull.

My dad's humminbird fish finder transducer hangs off the back of the hull and has been extreemly accurate for 15 years. I've thought, seriously, about just buying a fish finder.

            Hummingbird Depth Guage

My depth finder has a mind of its own. Most of the time it reads 2.7 ft. Once in a while if you treat it just right, it will actually tell you the correct depth for at least a few minutes. I called Teleflex(?) to inquire. They informed me that product was sold to Hummingbird. I called Hummingbird. They informed me that, unfortunately, the odd behavior was a sign of the unit going out. The best fix was to replace the unit - $99.00.

Does anyone know the general location of where the transducer is located? If it is not working, at least I pound on it or something.

Glad to hear I am not the only one with difficulties.

heard the supplier had an issue, thot it was around 1.5. if boat out of warranty, go to the Hummingbird web site. might have been bought out - maybe teleflex. check their website.

I read in the manual that over or under voltage to the unit may cause it to read depth incorrectly. Has anyone with this problem tested the voltage going to the unit when it stops working?

I'm wondering if it stops working correctly as the power to it fluctuates...ie. turn on the ballast pumps etc. I haven't tested that theory yet, but will try this weekend.

Mine is wired to come on only after the key is turned on AND the main ignition breaker is pushed...its not wired to an inviducal breaker.

                  any thoughts?

I hated the teleflex depth sounder on my old boat because it showed an erroneous depth more then an accurate depth. It did however work in most shallow water situations so I went ahead and added the Faria unit to match my new boat's gauges. The Faria unit has so far worked extremely well. The sending unit uses and oil bath to couple to the hull, it's a superior system to the old Hummingbird/Teleflex unit.

By the way, I drove a friend's SAN last weekend, his hummingbird depth gauge displayed 1.2 most of the day.
