    Battery mount 99 Sport Nautique

Okay one more battery question. For those of you that have mounted a battery under the observers seat. How did you secure it?

I was thinking of adding either a tray to the floor with a strap to hold the battery or just adding a strap and letting the battery sit on the carpet.

Either way how do you recommend mounting something to the floor? I know that CC just puts screws in to the floor for securing things so I figured that might be ok.

    Your opinions/ideas are appreciated.

I've had a pure hate / disgust relationship with just about all the marine battery mounts and boxes I've seen. I don't think they do their job well...... Till I saw RMC Boatworks and their aluminum trays with ratchet straps. These mounts will outlive all of us trough a nuclear war

They look nice. How did you attach them? Just screw them down into the floor?

yep, four 1" stainless screws down into the floor. Ensure you know what you are drilling into... it'd ruin your day to drill into the gas tank, ballast or wiring.

In my case, I had to trim approx 1/8" off the screws with heavy lineman's pliers so that the factory ballast bag under that floor would not get punctured. Drilled a tiny pilot hole into the floor about 1/3rd of the screw width prior.

Thanks for the info. I won't have any problems with drilling into anything with my 99. It's just carpet over fiberglass over foam under the observer's seat where I plan to put the battery tray.

So just out of curiosity, why do you want to move the battery to under the observer's seat? Mine's been up in the bow since new and seems fine there. Isn't it going to be a PITA getting to bags and towels behind the observer's seat with that battery there now?

I'm adding a second battery and will push it all the way forward so I will only lose about 12" of horizontal space under there.
