About to start the ballast install. I think I've read every SAN ballast install document on here, but wanted to ask it anyone regrets where they may have drilled their intake holes. Planning on drilling three 1" holes and using ballast puppies.

I don't think u can go to wrong in place meant. Mine are all within a foot or so of each other and the engine intake hole. Biggest thing will be that you have room to for the hoses on the barbed ends and can reach the shut off valves easily.

Surround... what type of drill bit are you using?
I juust drilled a 1.75" for a transom remote using an open bit like these, aporx $7ea size at Lowes... no issues... they have a drill bit up the center of the hole aas a guide... but reccomend you drill a tiny pilot hole first to ensure it doenst skip out on you. Also small pilot hole allows you to fine tune your final drilling location.... fo you, a 1" hole, encompassing your pilot hole... allows you to adjust up to 1" off that pilot hole if you dont like that centered location. I definitly needed this on my 1.75" hole...I was approx 1" off from where I wanted to be... no foul though, was able to adjust and that original pilot was still part of the 1.75" final hole.
Also, the open bit I used like this had rather agressive teeth like these.... I drilled the entire thing thru in reverse, worked very very well, very clean smooth hole.... I was worried a tooth would catch and grab going forward where those bit teetch are too agressive... potentially causing a gel spider crack. Consider using reverse to go thru if you have an sharp agressive bit.
I am considering putting a T hadle brass drain under my tranny.... if I do, I'll do it the same way.2019 G23 450

Thanks guys. Ryan, yes, I have a hole saw kit I was going to use. It has a pilot drill bit i the middle but that's a good idea to drill with a regular bit first to see what's going on. I knew about reversing through the gel but not about through the fiberglass. Good idea.2018 SAN 230
