    Throttle Removal

I need to remove the throttle lever on my 99 Super Sport so that I can remove the vinyl panel behind it. I know there is a hex set screw on the bottom of the lever. Once that is removed do I just unscrew the Philips screw at the base of the throttle and then it will pop off? Does it come off in one piece or is there a spring inside the neutral lock out button that I should be ready for?

Anybody know if removing that Philips screw at the base is the correct way to remove the throttle lever? I am hoping to work on the boat tonight.

IIRC removing the Phillips head screw on the button and backing out the hex screw at the bottom will allow you to pull it off. There is a spring but it shouldn't come flying out.

Make sure when replacing to not over tighten the Phillips head screw as the button will crack in two. They do not offer just that part for replacement.

hmm either mine is different than others or I am an idiot. Removed set screw, removed philips screw at the base and button came off (no spring) but the throttle still seemed to be on there really good. It wouldn't jiggle or seem to want to pull off at all. Almost seemed like there must be a retaining clip or something. I only had a few minutes to mess with it so I will look again but anybody got any more ideas?

I thought there was a spring behind the neutral lookout button that kept it pushed out, but could be wrong. My set screw backed out causing the arm to come off the splined shaft so I don't know how hard it would be to remove normally but slid right back on so I couldn't imagine it being very tough. Here is a manual for what I think is the correct assembly...

It doesn't show much detail, but maybe it will help.

Thanks Jason, I will read through that manual but I probably just need to give it a little more oomph to get it off.

Got the throttle off this weekend. Jason is correct that it's just the set screw and neutral button screw that hold it on. Mine probably hadn't been removed since it left the factory so it took a little jiggling to free it up but it came off without issue.
