2000 super air gt40 wont idle in gear

i have replaced my motor this past weekend. timed it new manifolds and all. I put the boat in the water today and you put it in gear and it will die. with idle set to 600-700 with the little grey plug out. when I put the plug back in it idles up to about 1000 and stays when you put it in gear it drops to 500 and then dies. also the idle is a little off it bounces around a bit it goes from 750 to 1000 and then back to 1000 and stays for a few seconds and then back to bouncing around. it runs great above 1000 but under that in gear will not run please help. o bye the way I hate electronics makes everything more difficult

Have you found a fix? I have started to have the same problem. Mine doesn't die but does bounce around at idle.

      Probably a distributor-timing issue.

x 2 on it being timing. Makes a motor where it can't handle any load if timing is off/distrib not advancing
