    2nd battery gt40 2001 SSN.

I am in the process if added a 2nd battery to my boat. However, I not sure on the best way to add the battery to the system to safe guard that I will not being stranded on the lake with a dead battery.

One amp running tower speakers and amp running sub, along with standard Head Unit. Not out on the lake running lights at night currently.

I am thinking about leaving the stock wiring setup as is with amp running off stock battery and all the stock wiring. Along with the power wire running to the starter as it currently setup.

The second battery will be wired only to the starter with a FORD style solenoid between the battery and the start positive side, and running a wire from the Yellow wire on the starter to the extra solenoid. The solenoid should only send power when the Start Button is pushed.

The 2nd battery will be changed by a combiner 100 from yandina.com.

    Should this work?

The other idea is to ONLY run the AMP off the 2nd battery but I not sure if there is an issue of running the Head unit off the Standard wire set up and the Amp running off the second battery. I am guessing I should remove the Remote wire from the headunit and adding a switched wire from 2nd battery. But if I go that far, I might remove the Power and ground from the headunit and run them directly to the 2nd battery (fused) as well.

The 2nd battery will be changed by a combiner 100 from yandina.com.

If I go this way, there is a chance that the radio could drain the stock battery and the amp could drain my 2nd battery.

You would have to run your deck/head unit for days to drain a battery to the point it wouldn't start a motor. I have a Blue Sea 1-2-off switch running two 65 series odyssey batteries. Battery 1 is the factory boat system with deck while the 2nd is amps only. I am running a wet sounds Syn 4 to my tower, a second Syn 4 to my interior speakers, and a Syn 1 to my sub and haven't had any issues running that way. I will sit at times for over an hour before I crank the motor and have never been stranded. I have a 2001 super with the upgraded 100amp alternator.
